VACANCY: ASSISTANT FINANCIAL MANAGER

Location: Nieuw Muckleneuk, Pretoria

Position Tye: Full-time

Reporting to: Financial Manager

Role Overview

To support the Financial Manager in overseeing the full financial functions of Subtropico Market Agents. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented finance professional looking to grow into a senior financial role, with strong operational and reporting skills and a sound understanding of financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

a) Financial Reporting and Support

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Monitor and report on income, expenditure, and financial variances.
• Assist with the preparation of audit packs and annual financial statements.

b) Accounting Operations

• Maintain general ledger integrity through reconciliations and journal entries.
• Manage accounts payable, receivable, and cashbook processing.
• Prepare VAT, EMP, and other statutory returns in compliance with SARS requirements.

c) Budgeting and Forecasting

• Assist the Financial Manager in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
• Monitor actuals against budget, investigate variances, and report findings monthly.

d) Compliance and Controls

• Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures.
• Assist in maintaining internal control systems and compliance with audit requirements.
• Support compliance with company, legal, and tax regulations.

e) Systems and Process Improvement

• Support the optimisation of financial workflows and ERP usage (particularly Sage Intacct).
• Contribute to automation and process streamlining initiatives.

f) Team Collaboration

• Provide guidance and oversight to junior finance team members.
• Collaborate with operations and administrative teams for accurate financial processing.
• Serve as a stand-in for the Financial Manager when required.

Minimum Requirements

• Completed SAIPA Articles (essential)
• Bilingual in Afrikaans and English
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum 5 years’ total experience, including articles and at least 2 years in a finance role post-articles.
• Experience in the market agency sector advantageous.
• Strong computer literacy, especially Excel and ERP systems (Sage Intacct experience is a plus).
