Senior Software Developer

Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their team in a hybrid Pretoria-based role. This position is suited to an experienced, well-rounded developer who can contribute across back-end and full-stack development while leveraging AI coding agents as part of modern software delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and enhance software applications.
• Contribute to both back-end and full-stack development initiatives.
• Develop and support robust software solutions and RESTful APIs.
• Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor effectively within the development workflow.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate with development team members and stakeholders to deliver quality software.
• Apply version-control and sound software development practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of solid software development experience.
• Strong development experience in at least one of the following:
  • Java
  • NodeJS
  • TypeScript
  • Python
• Strong back-end and full-stack development capabilities.
• Experience directing AI coding agents as part of the development process.
• University degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• A diligent, proactive and self-motivated approach.

Advantageous Skills

• AWS experience or certification.
• Java certification.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API development.
• Experience with Git and version control.
• Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
