Lukhozi Consulting Engineers seeks an Electrical Engineer or Technologist to join its Cape Town office. The salary is market-related and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Responsibilities
Investigation and design
• Conduct scoping and condition assessments of electrical installations and report on the findings in detail.
• Plan and design electrical building services, and urban and rural reticulation and MV distribution projects.
• Design the electrical elements of engineering projects, such as water and wastewater infrastructure, including pump stations, rising mains and pipeline systems.
• Prepare tender documents.
Contract administration and construction
• Administer electrical engineering contracts for building services and engineering projects from inception to completion, and act as the Engineer’s Representative as defined in the contract.
• Provide construction oversight, monitoring progress to ensure that the works comply with the design and quality requirements, and expedite the clarification of design-related issues.
• Review contractors’ Quality Control Plans and Construction Method Statements for compliance and quality.
• Measure electrical and electronic installations and prepare payment valuations.
• Address technical queries, resolve issues, and lead site and technical meetings, including preparing the minutes.
• Support safety and environmental compliance throughout the construction phase.
Reporting, communication and administration
• Compile and deliver reports at all project stages, including inception, concept and viability, design, tender evaluation, progress, financial status and close-out.
• Maintain regular communication with clients and all project professionals.
• Carry out the day-to-day administration of active projects, and general office administration as required.
Requirements
· Qualifications, registration and experience
• A B.Eng, B.Sc(Eng) or B.Tech (Engineering) degree in electrical engineering.
• Between five (5) and ten (10) years’ post-qualification experience.
• Preference will be given to applicants registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) with at least two (2) years’ post-registration experience.
• Unregistered applicants with at least six (6) years’ post-qualification experience will be considered, provided they will be eligible for ECSA registration within two (2) years.
Project experience
• Design and management of building services and engineering projects, including municipal building services projects covering electrical and electronic installations, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and fire detection systems.
• Proven experience in urban and rural reticulation and distribution projects, and in medium-voltage (MV) networks.
• A background in health, education and public works projects.
Software
• Proficiency in Relux lighting design software. Experience with DIALux is an advantage.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD. Experience with Revit MEP is an advantage.
• Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, particularly Autodesk Construction Cloud (now Forma) (ACC Docs, ACC Build and ACC Collaborate Pro), is an advantage.
General
• Own transport and a valid driver’s licence.
