Our client is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join their team in Johannesburg. This role offers an opportunity to work across enterprise data, business intelligence and applied machine learning, with a strong focus on turning complex operational data into practical business insights and solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Consolidate enterprise data into reliable single sources of truth using modern data warehousing and lakehouse architectures.
- Develop and maintain analytics solutions supporting Finance, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Project Management and Engineering.
- Design and deploy machine learning models for predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, failure prediction and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimation.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and respond to data-driven business requirements.
- Conduct root cause analysis and correlation studies relating to equipment performance.
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, field engineering, IT and other stakeholders.
- Present analytical findings and communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support the development of data-driven strategies and operational improvements.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
- 1–3 years' experience within a data science environment.
- Mining and mineral processing or supply chain experience would be advantageous.
- Strong Python skills, with R and Spark advantageous.
- Strong SQL skills, including T-SQL and M Code.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and SQL Server.
- Knowledge of dimensional modelling, particularly Kimball methodology.
- Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and data ingestion from varied enterprise sources.
- Strong Power BI capabilities, including data modelling, DAX, M Code and dashboard development.
- Knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and time-series forecasting techniques.
- Exposure to predictive maintenance modelling, anomaly detection and failure prediction.
- Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Azure Machine Learning or related Azure technologies would be advantageous.
- Experience with REST APIs, microservices and Azure App Services would be beneficial.
- Supply chain and inventory analytics experience would be advantageous.
