Position Details

  • Job Title: Projects Engineer

Overall Purpose of the Position

  • Work closely with project managers, administrators & document controllers/expeditors to ensure projects’ objectives are met.

  • Provide technical support to the Senior Projects Manager, approaching projects from a technical, engineering perspective.

  • Manage all the engineering and technical aspects of a project, from conception to completion.

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from initial planning and design to implementation and final delivery.

  • Plan, execute, and complete projects on time, within budget, and with high quality.

  • Coordinate with various teams, managing schedules, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and providing technical guidance to team members.

  • Direct Superior: Senior Projects Manager

  • Direct Subordinates: Junior Projects Engineer/Manager; Project Administrator; Document Controller

Incumbent Specification (Minimum Requirements)

Minimum Entry-Level Qualifications

  • Academic: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field.

  • Other

    • Three to five years of engineering experience.

    • Master’s degree in engineering or project management is an advantage.

    • Registered Pr. Eng. (ECSA) is an advantage.

Essential Entry-Level Knowledge

  • Technical Knowledge: A solid foundation in the technical aspects of engineering — knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, and practices.

  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication; ability to communicate complex technical information to team members, stakeholders, and clients.

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze and interpret data, identify trends, make informed decisions, and solve problems independently and as part of a team.

  • Time Management & Leadership: Excellent time management, task prioritization, and strong leadership skills to manage a team and provide clear guidance.

  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in software such as Inventor, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, project management software, MS Office Package, and MS Projects.

  • Quality & Safety Systems (SHERQ): Experience with workplace safety and quality management requirements (specifically ISO 9001:2015).

Performance Deliverables

  • Project Planning: Develop detailed project plans, schedules, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations (personnel, equipment, materials). Align project plans with strategic objectives (MPT’s Project 500 Strategic Plan and SHERQ Policy).

  • Design and Engineering: Ensure projects meet technical specifications and quality standards. Review and approve engineering drawings and plans. Resolve technical issues and implement ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.

  • Resource Management: Ensure resources are allocated and used efficiently to meet timelines and budgets. Oversee hiring, resource tracking, and procurement of equipment/materials.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation/contingency plans. Monitor compliance with applicable codes, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.

  • Communication: Coordinate with project managers to provide regular updates to stakeholders and clients. Facilitate discussions to keep all stakeholders aligned on project goals.

  • Documentation: Compile Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and maintain the project Databook. Write OEM equipment manuals and ensure technical datasheets and certificates are in place.

  • Client Management: Compile project schedules/reports, track items behind schedule, and communicate operational updates effectively to clients.

  • Team Management: Monitor fabrication and assembly in the workshop to ensure compliance with standards. Assign work, provide guidance, and ensure team adherence to project deadlines.

  • Safety, Health, Environmental, Risk & Quality (SHERQ): Adhere to SHERQ policies, protect personal and team safety, wear required protective gear, and report safety risks promptly. Active participation in the SHERQ Management System.

  • Budget Oversight: Oversee project budgets, track actual spending against allowances, direct resource allocation, and manage contract/budget changes.

  • Reporting and Documentation: Compile and present progress/solution reports to stakeholders. Maintain comprehensive project documentation, process maps, and diagrams.

  • General: Execute additional reasonable tasks within your expertise as instructed by management. Client-related tasks take priority.
