The Service Technician within the Masc Solutions Service Team is responsible for providing expert technical support across a range of electronic systems and installations. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced technician capable of commissioning equipment, performing detailed fault-finding activities, identifying root causes of technical issues, and implementing effective solutions. The technician will respond to service call-outs and support project teams across multiple sites, assisting with installations, testing, commissioning, and both hardware and software configuration. Close collaboration with the Service and Project Teams is essential, along with maintaining accurate documentation, adhering to service and maintenance procedures, and ensuring the secure management and storage of Access Control, CCTV, and Fire System credentials.
Role Purpose: To provide expert technical support for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic systems, ensuring efficient fault resolution, reliable system performance, and effective support to service and project teams across multiple sites.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all assigned areas of responsibility and ensure tasks are executed effectively and professionally.
- Demonstrate strong technical competence in the installation, maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electronic security and fire protection systems.
- Manage and maintain first-aid kits, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure incidents are reported in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct timely health and safety risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate identified risks.
- Maintain accountability for all stock, tools, equipment, and company assets issued for operational use.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and quality management system requirements.
- Deliver a high standard of customer service and maintain professional communication with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Ensure all assigned work is completed accurately, efficiently, and within agreed timeframes.
- Provide constructive feedback, recommendations, and continuous improvement suggestions relating to installations, maintenance activities, and service delivery.
- Respond professionally to feedback, comments, and complaints, taking appropriate corrective actions to improve performance and service quality.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit all required service, maintenance, inspection, and installation documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain a courteous, professional, and cooperative approach when interacting with customers, contractors, and colleagues.
- Operate articulating boom lifts, ladders, and other access equipment safely and in compliance with applicable OSHA and company safety standards.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), while minimizing safety risks, preventing property damage, reducing material waste, and maintaining clean work areas.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized testing equipment, and supervise their proper use where required.
- Apply knowledge of electrical systems and schematic diagrams to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain computer-controlled equipment, including Fire Detection and Gas Suppression Systems.
- Work independently while effectively prioritizing workloads and managing multiple tasks across different sites.
- Communicate technical issues clearly to customers and stakeholders, providing detailed explanations of corrective actions and recommended solutions.
- Install, configure, operate, test, and maintain a variety of control, audio, visual, security, fire detection, and gas suppression systems.
- Ensure all handover documentation is completed in accordance with applicable codes of practice and maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and security of all information obtained through installed systems.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills by participating in relevant training and professional development activities.
- Perform inspections, identify defects, recommend corrective actions, and oversee repairs through to successful completion.
- Install, commission, maintain, and repair Fire Detection and Gas Suppression Systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot systems using visual inspections, testing instruments, diagnostic equipment, architectural drawings, and schematic diagrams; replace defective components, repair wiring, and adjust mechanical systems as required.
- Support Service and Project Teams with installations, commissioning, testing, upgrades, and maintenance activities across multiple sites.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities reasonably assigned to support business operations and service delivery objectives.
EssentialQualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
- SAQCC Registered as an Installer and/or Commissioner.
- OEM training certifications in one or more of the following systems:
- Kidde / Ziton
- Aritech
- Advanced
- Zytech
- Notifier
- Proficient in spoken, written, and reading English.
- Computer literate with proficiency in the use of standard business and technical software applications.
Experience
- Minimum of 3-4 years' experience as a Service Technician within the Fire Detection and Gas Suppression industry.
- At least three years' experience working with Fire Detection and Gas Suppression technologies, products, systems, hardware, software, and related services.
- Proven experience in the installation, commissioning, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of Fire Detection and Gas Suppression systems.
- Experience interpreting technical documentation, wiring schematics, system drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex system faults and implement effective corrective actions.
- Experience working independently and supporting projects across multiple sites and customer environments.
