Job Overview
We are seeking an organized and detail-focused Claims & Risk Manager to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover within the Legal and Risk function of an international freight and logistics business.
The role will support the management of cargo claims, insurance requirements, contractual risk, and operational risk across the business. You will work closely with operations, finance, customer service, warehouse teams, and leadership to ensure claims and risk matters are handled accurately, efficiently, and in line with company procedures.
Training will be provided on the company’s systems, procedures, and freight and logistics environment.
Responsibilities
Claims Management
• Manage cargo claims from initial notification through investigation, resolution, and closure.
• Gather and review supporting documentation and maintain accurate claim records.
• Coordinate with customers, vendors, insurers, and internal teams throughout the claims process.
• Identify recurring claim trends and escalate complex or high-risk matters when required.
Insurance & Risk
• Support the management of company and vendor insurance requirements.
• Monitor insurance documentation, coverage requirements, renewals, and potential gaps.
• Assist with identifying operational and commercial risks across the business.
• Support risk assessments and follow-up actions aimed at reducing future losses or incidents.
Contracts & Legal Risks
• Review contracts, vendor agreements, and commercial terms for potential risk or liability.
• Highlight contractual concerns or exceptions for management review.
• Maintain accurate contract and renewal records.
• Assist with legal or risk-related escalations when required.
Operational Risks & Compliance
• Support the investigation and documentation of operational incidents and control gaps.
• Work with operational teams to improve processes, documentation, and preventative controls.
• Assist with maintaining relevant risk procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor claims and risk trends and provide updates to management.
Stakeholder Coordination
• Work closely with Operations, Accounting, Customer Service, Warehouse, and leadership teams.
• Liaise with insurers, vendors, and other external parties where required.
• Maintain professional and confidential communication when dealing with claims, disputes, and sensitive matters.
Qualifications
• Relevant qualification or practical experience in claims, risk management, insurance, compliance, legal support, or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to review documents and identify potential issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound judgement and the ability to recognize when a matter should be escalated.
• Strong organizational and follow-through skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
• Comfortable working with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and digital systems.
• Experience within freight forwarding, logistics, transportation, cargo claims, or insurance would be advantageous, but is not essential.
The Ideal Candidate
You are practical, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of matters from start to finish. You communicate clearly, maintain accurate records, and can balance day-to-day claims administration with broader risk considerations.
You should also be comfortable working across different departments and learning the operational side of the business, as many of the risks and claims handled in this role relate directly to freight, warehousing, and logistics activities.
