Farm Manager - Wine Grapes

Our client in the Wine Industry, requires the services of a Farm Manager

to join their team. The successful candidate must be hands-on and able to take ownership of the day-to-day running of our vineyards and farms.

Key performance areas

  • Monitor vine health and growth, applying best practices to maximise grape quality and yield.
  • Develop and maintain soil health programmes in line with sustainability and environmental goals.
  • Oversee all vineyard operations, including planting, pruning, irrigation, fertilisation, pest control, and harvesting.
  • Plan and implement seasonal and annual vineyard programmes aligned with the farm’s objectives.
  • Champion sustainable farming practices, including water conservation and responsible pest management, in line with certifications such as WIETA and Fairtrade.
  • Lead, train, and manage vineyard staff, including scheduling and performance reviews, with a strong focus on safety and teamwork.
  • Supervise the workforce during peak periods, such as harvest, ensuring efficient and safe execution.
  • Ensure vineyard and farm equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems, is properly maintained and safety compliant.
  • Maintain accurate records for compliance, audits, and general administration.
  • Support promotional activities, farm tours, and tastings, working with the sales and marketing team.
  • Plan and oversee general property maintenance and repairs across both estates, within budget.
  • Manage security measures across the farms and liaise with service providers.

The successful candidate must have

  • Matric with a Degree/Diploma in Winemaking, Oenology and Viticulture or an Agricultural qualification
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience operating a farm with vineyards
  • Must have technical knowledge of farm and vineyard machinery and winemaking processes
  • Proven experience managing and leading a team
  • Excellent computer literacy (MS Office – Outlook, Word & Excel)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, practical approach
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, contractors and clients
  • Must have a driver’s licence and own reliable transport
  • Willingness to work overtime when operational needs require it
