ABOUT VARENO

VARENO is an international foreign exchange (FX) and derivatives broker house, operating on a global scale. Through one account, VARENO gives clients access to global markets, including currencies, metals, indices, commodities and digital assets. This vacancy is for Vareno Markets SA (Pty) Ltd, the group’s South African company, an authorised financial services provider with Category I and Category II authorisation from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA).

THE POSITION

1. A board appointment as Managing Director or Financial Director, depending on the successful candidate’s profile.

2. In either case, appointment as the company’s Key Individual under the FAIS Act, subject to FSCA approval.

3. Full-time and office-based. The company will establish its office where the successful candidate is based: George (preferred), Johannesburg (Sandton) or Cape Town.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

4. Manage and oversee the financial services rendered under the company’s Category I and Category II authorisation, including the supervision of representatives.

5. Ensure compliance with the FAIS Act, the Financial Markets Act, FICA, POPIA and the exchange control requirements, with the company’s external Compliance Officer, including for clients outside South Africa.

6. Oversee client onboarding, know-your-client and anti-money-laundering controls, the Risk Management and Compliance Programme, complaints and conflicts of interest.

7. Oversee trading operations, execution, liquidity and risk management, and the company’s platform, liquidity, payment and banking providers.

8. Ensure accurate regulatory reporting and communication with the FSCA and the Financial Intelligence Centre.

9. Build and lead the South African team.

10. Managing Director: commercial leadership, business development and client acquisition. Financial Director: financial management, safeguarding of client funds, financial soundness, audit and tax.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

11. More than six years’ relevant experience at FSCA-authorised financial services providers, including experience as an FSCA-approved Key Individual, preferably in FX, CFDs or other derivative instruments.

12. Experience in the oversight of discretionary investment services, as required for Category II.

13. RE1 and RE3; a qualification recognised by the FSCA for a Key Individual; class of business and product-specific training; CPD up to date.

14. Honesty, integrity, good standing and financial soundness: no debarment, no conviction for an offence involving dishonesty or financial crime, and no unrehabilitated insolvency.

15. For the Financial Director position: CA(SA), CIMA or an honours degree in accounting or finance.

16. Excellent written and spoken English, and legal entitlement to work in South Africa.

PREFERENCES

17. Fluency in both Afrikaans and English, spoken and written.

18. Living in, or willing to be based in, George or the Garden Route.

19. Current Key Individual approval for derivative instruments; RE5; experience with MetaTrader 5 and A-book and B-book execution; international and crypto-asset market experience; a record in sales and client acquisition.

REMUNERATION

20. R1,000,000 to R1,500,000 a year (total cost to company), depending on the directorship held, qualifications and experience.

21. An annual performance incentive of up to 30% of the guaranteed package, measured against agreed regulatory, operational and financial targets.

22. Share options in the VARENO group, vesting over three years.
