Junior Estimator

Our client is seeking a capable and detail-oriented Junior Estimator to support construction operations in Gauteng. The ideal candidate will have practical construction knowledge and proven estimating exposure, particularly across civil works, earthworks and concrete. This is a hands-on role requiring strong commercial awareness, accuracy and the ability to work effectively under tight tender deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate material, labour, plant and subcontractor take-offs.
• Assist with estimates, budgets and tender submissions.
• Review construction drawings, specifications and schedules.
• Obtain, assess and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Assist with pricing variations and changes in project scope.
• Review tender documentation for omissions, discrepancies and potential risks.
• Support senior estimators and project managers with cost analysis.
• Maintain accurate estimating records, cost databases and supporting documentation.
• Apply estimating software, spreadsheets and relevant construction technology effectively.
• Communicate with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and internal teams to obtain and clarify pricing information.
• Work efficiently to meet demanding tender and submission deadlines.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in construction estimating is essential.
• Practical knowledge of earthworks, site preparation and civil construction.
• Good understanding of concrete works, including formwork, reinforcement and placement.
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications and schedules.
• High level of numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Sound commercial awareness and understanding of construction costs.
• Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in spreadsheets and relevant estimating software.
• Candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant and verifiable construction estimating experience.
