Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Remote, work from home role. Will be required to visit stores in KwaZulu Natal and Johannesburg.

Exciting opportunity exists for a commercially astute and entrepreneurial Chief Operating Officer to play a key role in the continued growth and national expansion of an established retail business. Reporting directly to the CEO, this senior, hands-on position will take ownership of multi-store operations, Head Office management, financial performance and new store development.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations and performance of all retail branches, ensuring operational efficiency, consistent standards and achievement of sales targets and KPIs
• Manage and develop the Head Office team, driving accountability, productivity and the delivery of business objectives
• Monitor budgets, expenses, cash flow, profitability and store-level performance, identifying opportunities to improve margins and control costs
• Identify and evaluate new retail locations and mall opportunities nationwide, managing the expansion process from initial assessment through to store opening
• Build and implement effective systems, processes and performance measures to support business growth
• Lead, motivate and develop teams while fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism and high performance
• Partner with the CEO on strategic planning, commercial decision-making and the long-term growth of the business

Requirements

• Approximately 8–12+ years of relevant management or executive experience, ideally within multi-site retail, franchising, financial services, jewellery, hospitality, FMCG or a similar environment
• Relevant Finance Degree / CA qualification
• Proven experience overseeing multiple branches, business units or locations, with a track record of improving business performance and driving growth
• Strong financial and commercial acumen, including sound knowledge of budgets, P&L, cash flow and profitability
• Experience in business expansion, new branch openings and project management
• Demonstrated leadership ability, with strong decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation and communication skills
• A proactive, hands-on and independent approach, with the confidence to take ownership and make commercially sound decisions
