Quality Assurance Lead
Wamly
Why Wamly?
We are radically honest, growth focused, and contagiously enthusiastic about the work we do. If you want real responsibility early, room to grow fast, and genuinely care about helping the world hire better people faster, you will feel at home here.
The Role
We are looking for a QA Lead to join our Development team and own the quality of the Wamly platform end to end. You will define and drive the QA strategy, quality standards and release criteria across our web app, APIs and integrations, and lead the QA function across manual and automation testing while staying fully hands-on.
This is a build-and-lead role. You will put quality in early by working with the Product Owner, UI/UX Designer and developers from refinement through to release, give the CTO a clear, data-backed view of product quality and release readiness, and lead the responsible adoption of AI-assisted testing across the team. If you like setting the standard rather than inheriting one, still enjoy getting your hands into a tricky regression, and want your Go/No-Go call to actually mean something - you will enjoy this one.
What you’ll be doing
- Own the QA strategy, test policies and release test plans using a risk-based approach, and set the quality gates, entry/exit criteria and quality Definition of Done the team works to.
- Review user stories early, challenge unclear or untestable requirements, and plan test effort and cycles with the Product Owner and CTO.
- Own the automation strategy and framework roadmap across UI, API and integration level, set standards for test code, and make automated regression a stable release gate in the CI/CD pipeline.
- Stay hands-on with exploratory, regression and cross-platform testing on high-risk features, and coordinate test execution so every release has full coverage.
- Give the CTO a clear, documented Go/No-Go recommendation for every release.
- Run defect triage with development and product, set severity and priority standards, track defect trends, and lead root cause analysis on escaped and client-reported defects.
- Set the direction for AI-assisted testing across QA - test case generation, regression selection, defect pattern analysis - with human validation of AI outputs, and drive adoption of improvements across QA and development.
- Act as the main QA point of contact for the CTO, Product Owner, UI/UX, developers and Support, and publish a regular quality report covering defect leakage, coverage, release health and risks.
- Lead, coach and develop the QA function across manual and automation testing, including workload planning and individual development plans, and coach developers on testability so quality is shared across the team.
- Keep up with QA, automation and AI testing trends to recommend tools that fit Wamly.
Must-haves
- A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent, or a diploma with strong, proven lead experience.
- 5+ years in software testing / QA, including 1–2 years in a QA Lead, Test Lead or senior QA role.
- Experience defining a QA strategy, test policies and quality standards from the ground up, and maturing an existing QA process.
- Experience leading, coaching and allocating work to manual and automation tester/s.
- Test estimation and planning across sprints and releases, and ownership of release readiness: quality gates, regression scope and Go/No-Go recommendations.
- Experience building and maintaining automation that runs as a gate in CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Bitbucket Pipelines).
- API, integration and non-functional testing (performance, basic security, cross-browser/device), including Postman or REST Assured and SQL for data validation.
- Risk-based testing, test design techniques, and solid test management and defect triage processes.
- QA metrics and reporting (defect leakage, automation coverage, regression effectiveness) to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Agile delivery experience (Scrum/Kanban).
Nice-to-haves
- SaaS / web product experience.
- ISTQB certification - Foundation (CTFL), Advanced Test Manager (CTAL-TM) or Test Automation Engineering (CTAL-TAE), or an Agile testing certification.
- Automation frameworks such as Selenium or Playwright.
- Performance and load testing (e.g. k6, JMeter) and security testing awareness (e.g. OWASP Top 10).
- Accessibility testing (WCAG).
- Cross-browser and device testing platforms (e.g. BrowserStack), including camera/microphone and video-interview flows.
- AI-assisted testing tools - test generation, self-healing tests, smart regression selection.
- AWS familiarity (logs, environments) to support investigation.
