We are looking for an experienced, driven Project Engineer to take full end-to-end ownership of our infrastructure project deployments. This role is ideal for a versatile engineering professional who excels at managing multi-disciplinary contractors, coordinating site builds, enforcing strict health and safety standards, and keeping client deployments on time and on budget.

Role Overview

As the Project Engineer, you will drive EV charging infrastructure and solar PV installations from site inception through to operational handover.

You will work closely with internal engineering, software, and commercial teams to create detailed project schedules, communicate transparently with clients, manage on-site civil, electrical, and solar contractors, enforce site health and safety compliance, ensure thorough commissioning, and deliver seamless site handovers including stakeholder training.

Key Responsibilities End-to-End Project Execution & Site Delivery

  • Develop, track, and maintain detailed project schedules, resource allocations, risk logs, and milestones.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients throughout the installation phase, delivering regular progress updates and managing expectations.

Site Quality, Safety & Commissioning

  • Enforce strict Health & Safety compliance, ensuring contractors complete all safety files, risk assessments, and method statements prior to work commencing.
  • Oversee site activities to ensure construction and electrical works align strictly with engineering designs, quality standards, and statutory regulations.
  • Coordinate site testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and sign-offs in collaboration with electrical engineers and site owners.
  • Lead formal handover processes to Zimi’s operational teams and conduct client/site personnel operational training upon project completion.

Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Diploma, B.Tech, B.Eng, or B.Sc in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of proven track record directly managing infrastructure, energy, or construction projects from start to finish.
  • Industry Focus: Direct experience managing renewable energy (solar PV, battery storage) or electrical infrastructure projects is highly advantageous.
  • Driver's License: Valid South African Driver’s License and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Technical & Managerial Skills:
  • Strong project management fundamentals (Gantt charts, budgeting, risk mitigation, contractor management).
  • Comprehensive understanding of site Health & Safety legislation (OHSA, Construction Regulations) and safety file protocols.
  • Solid grasp of civil work, cabling, electrical reticulation layouts, and mechanical mounting structures.
  • Exceptional client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities under fast-paced site conditions.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable for project deadlines and delivery quality.
  • Passion: Strong commitment to clean energy, sustainability, and electric mobility.
