PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The NWU Business School invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced academics to join a growing and ambitious business school committed to shaping executive minds in Africa.
The appointed candidates will be expected to make significant contributions to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, academic leadership, and engagement with industry and society. Successful candidates will contribute to the School's strategic objectives of academic excellence, internationalisation, accreditation, and societal impact.

Appointments will be made at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and academic profile, and in accordance with the North-West University's approved appointment and promotion criteria.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning
- Teach and facilitate learning on postgraduate and executive education programmes, including the MBA and Postgraduate Diploma in Management.
- Develop, review, and innovate curricula in line with academic, industry, and accreditation requirements.
- Create engaging learning environments across face-to-face, blended, and online delivery modes.
- Supervise MBA, master's, and doctoral candidates, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Contribute to quality assurance, assurance of learning, and accreditation activities.
Research and Innovation
- Maintain an active programme of research and scholarly engagement.
- Publish in accredited and internationally recognised academic journals.
- Supervise postgraduate research and contribute to research capacity development.
- Participate in national and international research collaborations and networks.
- Pursue external research funding and grant opportunities.
Academic Leadership and Service
- Provide academic leadership appropriate to rank and experience.
- Contribute to programme development, curriculum enhancement, and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in School, Faculty, and University committees and governance structures.
- Mentor postgraduate students and emerging academics.
- Contribute to accreditation, quality assurance, and institutional development activities.
Engagement and partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with industry, government, professional bodies, and international partners.
- Contribute to executive education, consulting, and knowledge-transfer activities.
- Participate in public scholarship, thought leadership, and media engagement.
- Support community engagement and social impact initiatives.
- Advance the School's internationalisation and partnership agenda.
Resource Mobilisation and Sustainability
- Contribute to third-stream income generation through executive education, consulting, and customised programmes.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for research funding, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.
- Support fundraising and resource mobilisation initiatives aligned with the School's strategic priorities.
- Contribute to stakeholder engagement and business development activities.
- Enhance the reputation, visibility, and sustainability of the NWU Business School.
- A PhD (NQF level 10) specialising in one of the Business School’s focus areas.
- In addition to the above:
- Associate Professor - A minimum of ten (10) years of appropriate work experience of which three (3) years were in a higher education context, preferably within a business school.
- Professor - A minimum of ten (10) years of appropriate work experience of which five (5) years were in a higher education context, preferably within a business school.
- A strong and sustained record of research publications in accredited academic journals.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising master's and doctoral candidates to completion.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES
- A minimum of three (3) years’ industry-related experience.
- Experience in executive education, industry engagement, or professional practice will be advantageous.
- NRF rating.

- Demonstrated excellence in postgraduate teaching, supervision, and curriculum development.
- Strong research and innovation profile, with evidence of scholarly publications and postgraduate supervision.

- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
